Hourly Comic Day 2010

February 2, 2010

As many of you know, yesterday was Hourly Comic Day so me and a whole bunch of other people drew a comic for every hour that we were awake. My hourlies actually go a few hours into February 2nd but I don’t really consider the day over until I go to sleep. The comics get a little sloppier as it gets later because I may have gotten a bit drunk. Oh well, there is something to be said for drunktooning. I hope you enjoy these:

A few days ago I, a person previously ignorant to all-things-internet, launched my very own website (mostly) by myself. I’ve got to admit though, my friend Tre was a lot of help in answering a ton of completely stupid questions and sort of convincing me that making a website couldn’t possibly be as hard as I thought it was. I’ve also got to thank James at GoDaddy‘s support hotline who was incredibly patient and explained a lot of simple things that I probably should have already known.

All the artwork currently on the site was created before it went up, so this is the first time I’m seeing it on a computer screen. In the future I’ll be taking this viewing format into consideration while I draw the strips, so they should look a bit better, I hope. The website, for me, is an exercise in challenging myself to meet deadlines and to create better work with an audience in mind. In order for this to work, I kind of need an audience, so I hope you all will read it.

In other exciting news, I’ve just booked my flights and it’s official, I’m going to SPX this fall! I’ll be taking a two week trip to see some family, as well as paying visits to the Center for Cartooning Studies, the School of Visual Arts and the Museum of Comics and Cartoon Art in NYC. I’m really thrilled to be going on a trip like this but also kind of scared because I’ll be traveling alone! If you’re going to be at SPX, let me know… it’d be nice to see a familiar face there.

New Work By Yours Truly

April 16, 2009

To all those living in Chicago, and all those who have posted in the past that they would like to see my work – now you can!!

Please check out page 6 of the Chicago Weekly this week! There you can find original work by me, Emi Gennis! Where can you find a copy? Why, in the front foyer of Jimmy’s Woodlawn Tap, of course! So go in, have a beer and read my comic. The paper is also available in a number of Hyde Park apartment buildings and businesses, so if you are Hyde Park based, it should be easy to find.

It may only be a small newspaper, but this is the first time my work has been published anywhere, so it’s very exciting for me.
